Using Art to Refresh a Room

If you’re looking to refresh a room, add a new statement art piece.

I wanted to simplify my living room design and add more consistent coloring. The watercolor, Wakeland art print by Lindsay Megahed on Minted amalgamated all of the colors in my room into a single focal piece.

When using art to refresh your room…

1. Focus on color

To simplify and clean your room, choose a piece of art that includes the primary colors used in your room. My room blended pink, black, white, and brass and dark wooden accents.

To brighten your room, opt for a piece with a white background, and pastel or minimal coloring. Alternatively, to darken the room, you need a darker piece with a black or muted gray background.

To add elegance to your room, I’d choose a textured piece with paint or fabric.

2. Select a frame

Your frame should compliment the art and pull from colors in your room. Consider the color of your furniture, metal and wooden accents to choose a frame.

3. Properly hang your art

Studio McGee says that hanging artwork incorrectly is the most common design mistake they see. Check out their guide on how to properly hang all kinds of art, from large focal pieces to gallery walls.
